Barb Cook has more than 14 years experience in general civil and maritime litigation and transactional matters. Ms. Cook’s goal is to obtain the most cost-effective result for her clients. She frequently attains this goal by resolving issues through the skillful art of negotiation and without the need for lengthy litigation and a costly trial.
A south Florida resident for most of her life, Ms. Cook took her law degree cum laude in 1994 from the University of Miami. As an undergraduate, she served as a two-term law clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge Palermo in the federal district court in Miami and interned as an associate in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she was also admitted to the bar. Prior to becoming an attorney, she worked for the IBM corporation in various management and engineering positions. After leaving IBM and prior to establishing her law practice, she spent several years sailing the islands of the Caribbean and Central America in her own yachts. Her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, masters degree in electrical engineering, technical and management experience during employment with the IBM corporation for nearly 23 years, and her experiences from many years of sailing and maintaining her own yachts have all proved invaluable assets to her clients from her implementation of a pragmatic, practical, and cost-efficient approach to resolving legal problems.
